Hi Mike @mikeboxwell With regards to the media information section of your website, on balance, I recommend that this is called ‘Press Room’. The word ‘media’ can have several connotations.
I think that it would be helpful to let visitors to this page know what the file sizes and types are.
I notice that the word POWERTECH is in uppercase…[Read more]

    Hi Nigel,

I work in professional services as an ‘accountant, tax adviser and business mentor’.

    • Should I price by the hour or by project?

    • How do I get clients for whom I am their tax agent to see value in what I do, when often they see filing their tax return is an unwanted chore of no value to them?!

    Thanks.

    David

    • Hi David, I would go with the project approach. I have tried hourly billing and I found that it took quite a bit of time to record everything that I was doing for the client. What is more, it can hold up the conversation – if they can ‘hear the clock ticking’.
I like your second question. 🙂 I think that you need to educate them. You could do…[Read more]

Do you like referrals? How often does this happen? Do you have a system for increasing the number of referrals that you receive every month? If you do, please tell me about it. If not, you are welcome to ask for some referral generation ideas.

A useful loop function if you are posting videos etc on your tube.
It keeps your video on screen and stops it being replaced with something unsuitable.

Whilst writing a blog for linked in

I wanted to show some inclusively priced technology inside my App building business.

One technology that lends itself to many scenarios is QR (short for Quick Response

(they can be read quickly by a smart phone camera).

    I came across https://www.qrcode-monkey.com/

Its time to get creative about what your…[Read more]

    • Thanks for sharing this, Will. I have taken a look at https://www.qrcode-monkey.com …it looks like it is free to use, no catches? May I ask how you would use QR Codes from a marketing perspective?

    • I think for any business or organisation with a fixed location, or a product with packaging, this 30 year old technology is begging for implementation.

And in turn another older technology leaps back in to life, the walky talkie.

Because QR is paper based it perfectly suits the Smart phone camera in the field but it will also work on social…[Read more]

    • Thanks, Will. So you can reach and download a PWA App by using a QR Code? Can you also email a link to someone?

    • Yes a PWA can have a unique URL or a direct URL to an existing website.
      by dropping the www.
Yes you can connect direct to QR code and yes you can distribute a WPA via email or indeed any other method , social media SMS website, newsletter.
Such is the change that Google and Apple are now fully collaborating

    Evening Nigel,

Do you have some suggestions please as to the different ways of getting maximum media coverage?

    Many thanks.

    David

    • Following our discussion, once you start to receive media coverage, I suggest that you have a separate web page for this.
It could be called Media, or PR.
When a piece of editorial appears, add this to the top of the list in the above mentioned page. Include the media title and the appearance date.
Link to the relevant website (i.e. Financial…[Read more]

Hi Nigel, I love receiving direct mail, specially from an individual or company who I already have contact with. It’s like the difference between reading a book on Kindle or reading a book printed on paper. There are millions of people like me. Even in the covid crisis it’s worth remembering, Friends leave the mail for a few days to de-bug then…[Read more]

    • Thank you for sharing this, Brian. This is all good news in that, as you say, awards create PR opportunities as well as social media content. In addition, they add credibility to your brand and products.

    Hi Nigel
My video production business has been very much a game of two halves. The video transfer side has been very busy, whereas conference, theatre and pro theatre work of course is at a standstill. I’m keen to push the corporate video side of the business, but of course business budgets are very much constrained and there is a reluctance to…[Read more]

    • I am finding that quite a few businesses are spending money on training and promotion. It all depends on the sector. For example, The Times reported a boom within the high tech sector as increasingly we move towards an integrated digital economy. The place to start is to decide on target market segments (ideally taken from your marketing plan).…[Read more]

Hi Nigel, Can you give me some advice as to the best way to approach PR. Thanks Margi

    • Hi Margi, The first step is to build a media list, ideally within your CRM (database). Think local, regional, national and special interest in terms of media segments.
The next step is to create a series of press releases – which connect what you do with an interesting news twist.
Here are some story ideas for press releases:
      * Announce a tie in…[Read more]

This is obscure I think. Hi Phil @penrynian Given that Google is going to pass on the Digital Service Tax to their customers, I wondered how you felt about that? (It is not a large sum, however….)

I now have a decent giveaway or lead magnet and want to maximise my effectiveness in using it. I will work it into my website, provide links in blogs and posts, and put it on my social media profiles. Should I go live with it everywhere at the same time or, selectively introduce it?

    • Good question, David. I would think of it as a campaign (i.e. advertising campaign). On that basis, it should be rolled out everywhere all at once.

Good afternoon Nigel, I hope all is well.
We normally get most of our shop footfall over the next four months, all being well!.

I’d like to make the most of these shop visitors by encouraging them to be on-line customers as well. My initial thought is to give each shop customer a coupon code for online purchases. I was thinking of offering a…[Read more]

    • I would create a leaflet, telling them about the website and some of the benefits of visiting. The headline will be important, within the leaflet.
Yes, a coupon code is a good idea in order to build your online customer base.
In addition, tell them about your newsletter and social media accounts.
Some companies use a ‘tell a friend’ approach in…[Read more]
