Hi NIgel, in 2021 should I plan for Zoom events or live (in person) events? Thanks Margi

    • I would plan for both, Margi. During the first quarter of 2021, I suggest that you start with Zoom only. However, I would also start to pencil in live events after the vaccines have been rolled out. Live events are quite different from online ones, aren’t they?

    • Thanks, That’s very helpful. Can’t wait to get back to live events!

    • Yes, I know what you mean, Margi. There is nothing quite like meeting someone in person, is there? Having said this, the advantages of virtual events include lower costs (i.e. no need to hire venues) and the ability to attract attendees from much further afield. I think that many enterprises will adopt a hybrid approach: live + online.

  • Does politeness matter any longer? What is your experience of politeness (or the lack of it) when you are buying products or services, either personally or for your business. Do you have a top politeness tip to share with me?

HI Nigel, Do you have any tips for using Zoom? Thanks Margi

    • Hi Margi, I suggest that you setup a test Zoom meeting with a friend. Or you could do this with yourself, if you have two devices. Having started the Zoom meeting, hover your mouse over the Zoom toolbar at foot of your screen and work your way though the various icons and menu items.
Personally, I only use a few of them, i.e. Sound and Video on /…[Read more]

We are making a big product announcement in the next few weeks and looking to maximise our coverage in the press and online. What sort of media collateral do I need for a successful PR campaign?

    • Hi Mike, here is a list for you:
      * Press Room page on your website (visible from the home page, i.e. via the Nav bar)
      * The Press Room page should include a company overview, spokesperson profiles and access to images
      * In due course, press releases should be added there in chronological order (clickable through to separate pages, which each hold…[Read more]

    • Thank you. I’ve created a media page. More photographs required in there. I don’t have any press releases as yet, but I have made provision for these on the page and these will be added as they are produced. I am also creating an off-line pack that we can make for sending to people when they make enquiries as a result of our press attention.

Having worked with Nigel since forever (well 1985), he has constantly driven me to write better, think audience, plan-to-write and write-to-plan, etc. etc. etc. This morning I found out I have been nominated for a 2020 RIMPA information industry lifetime award, one of the largest professional bodies globally. Hi all, what experiences of CRM are there, other than the monster called SalesForce?

Had a strange one this week, our direct mail campaign has shown good interest as opens and clicks by recipients. I’m feeling that we should do something different that carry on with a similar stream of mailers. Perhaps break down and become more targeted, any suggestions?

    • Does your email platform allow you to see: most engaged, location data and click throughs? With regards to the latter, you could send a relevant message based on the content of the landing page. In addition, try short messages, in sequence and test these messages. Another idea would be video content.

    • Only one we cant get is location data. If I use the click-through data then we can see whats the greatest interest to the person and do a simple message to those few hundred each.

    • Thanks for this, Ken. Think of it as a conversation. The subscriber expresses an interest by clicking. Can you share some additional, relevant information and / or ask them a question, via your email system, in response?

Thanks for the marketing strategy session, and for the mind map.All very useful.
My strategy is to have distinctive products and services that get people to think and act more effectively when making decisions.

    • I think that this is a positioning strategy, David. It is all about linking your name with decision making. As well as books, articles, blogs and talks there may a software product that could be developed. This is the way that Tony Buzan went with Mind Mapping (books first, followed by a software product).

    • I do have an app in mind, but that comes after refreshing the speaking and coaching offers, the book, systematic blogging and social media posting, a newsletter, an online course, and a membership group.

    • Yes, I like the idea of creating an app. There would be a publicity opportunity there. All other points noted.

Hi Nigel, What’s the most important thing to remember when running a course using Zoom, or participating in a course? We’re all taking the leap! Thanks Margi

    • Hi Margi, The most important thing that I have learnt is that, as the presenter, you need to use your voice effectively. There is either limited body language, or, in my case, none at all as I use screen sharing and audio only. Trainers make good Zoom presenters! 🙂

    • Thanks, that’s a really important think to know.
