If you personalise your marketing emails, you will receive a higher opening rate. Make sure that names are correct and that first names start with a Leading Capital. In Mailchimp, you can use this merge code: *|FNAME|*

According to research conducted by Mailchimp, the best time to send an email is 6:00am. You can prepare a campaign the day before, save and come out of the campaign and you will see a ‘Schedule’ button towards the top right hand corner of the screen.

In Mailchimp, if you are going to resend to non-openers, I recommend that you wait for at least three days before you do this.

Don’t just say: ‘Subscribe to our newsletter’
Provide reasons why people should sign up.
For example: exclusive offers; be the first to hear about new products / services; register for our events; find out how other people our using our services; discover tips and hints. etc.

Use Mailchimp A/B split testing to see which alterative email subject line produces the best result.

Hi Nigel, long time no speak, I hope all is well.

I have a burning question, and wondered if you would share an opinion, please.

I used HubSpot CRM to send out an update email yesterday to “The List” – 571 names.

It was quite an important update about lead times, manufacturing delays, availability, etc that people need to know about…[Read more]

    • Hi Phil, Thanks for asking this question and it is always nice to see you within The Marketing Compass. 🙂 Here are my thoughts:
      * The average Mailchimp opening rate, on a global basis, based on 20 million+ organisations, is 20%. So a 22.8% opening rate for a bulk email is good (but not great).
      * As you know, my expertise lies with Mailchimp (7…[Read more]

    • Hi Nigel,
Many thanks for the detailed reply, and for the Mail Merge 365 suggestion.
I use O365 already so that would seem to fit well.
As I’m sure you are aware, one benefit of sending email via a CRM is that all outgoing and incoming messages are automatically assigned to the recipient’s profile, so there is an activity trail to refer to.
      At…[Read more]

    • I used my gmail address to set up capsule CRM originally.
But I wanted to use my @maltix emails for a more professional approach.

The Titan platform I opted for, does not integrate with capsule.

So for two years now, the compromise is using capsule dropbox in conjunction with wufoo smart form pages ( that do integrate)
      An almost satisfactory solution

If possible, have a single Mailchimp Audience. Think of this as an email marketing database. If you send regularly from that Audience, you will generate a great deal of information about your subscribers.

Sometimes, there are good reasons to have two or three Audiences. However, dozens of them is generally not so helpful.

Hi Emmanuelle @elerouxlouvre-hotels-com with regards to your other question, no, you do not have to create an automated message to confirm signup in order for Mailchimp (MC) to work properly. However, having said this, I like automated welcome messages. I suggest that yours welcomes subscribers to your list and provides some useful, helpful information.

Hi Emmanuelle @elerouxlouvre-hotels-com Welcome to The Marketing Compass. You asked about adding a Mailchimp (MC) signup to Facebook. There are a few steps that you have to go through and you begin within MC / Integrations.
Here is the relevant MC page:

Mailchimp tip: ensure that your main message is visible at the top of every campaign that you send. This is partly because of Preview panes (in Outlook, Gmail etc) but also because subscribers who open your campaigns will look at the top part and decide whether to scroll down the email.

In general terms, one campaign = one story.

    However, I know…[Read more]

Hi Lucy @lucybeautii-co With regards to your Mailchimp questions, firstly, yes, it would be a good idea to only have one Audience. I recommend that you backup previous Audiences, unless you are absolutely sure that you have the information contained in them elsewhere.
You can either pick a recent Audience and use this one, or start afresh.
    You can…[Read more]

Hi, I am trying to set up a template. Previous ones have been set up using coding by a professional designer, who charged. I would like to amend the current template but understand I can’t do that. However the current one has all the headers from the website in which I would like to keep (in the header image). Is there anyway of keeping this but…[Read more]

    • Hi Fran, Thank you for asking this and welcome to The Marketing Compass. It is always a bit of a challenge to advise on this without seeing it, however, you could try sending yourself a campaign using one of the templates. Then open the campaign in your email system. Now right click on the header or image that you want to use. There should be a…[Read more]

    • Thanks for your email and the campaign example. The alternative option would be to re-create the header in Photoshop or Canva. Within Canva, hyperlinks can be inserted via the ‘three dots’ icon in the menu. Beyond that, I suggest that this would be a (small) job for a graphic designer.

    • Incidentally, with regards to the links, I am referring to the Navigation bar within the header image, ‘About us’ etc.

    • I think I will just start again and change the whole thin, this sounds way too complicated!

    • Yes, understood, Fran. 🙂

If you are looking for new customers, email marketing has a high ROI. Time and money spent on this promotional technique is well spent. You need to choose a service, such as Mailchimp; continually build your list; and send useful, interesting and helpful information.
Are you already doing this? If you are, which aspects are working well and which…[Read more]

    • I see what you mean re email marketing!
The ones I find irritating are the unsolicited emails offering web design and web app services, usually from abroad. These go straight to my spam folder, but some are quite persistent and seem like they’re telling me off!
I guess getting acquainted with MailChimp (I think there’s a free version if you…[Read more]

I have been experimenting with Mailchimp templates and Canva – in order to create the Wow! factor for an email campaign. Subscribers only glance at emails, perhaps giving them a second or two. Therefore, first impressions count.
Images can arrest attention quickly, as graphic designers know.
Do you have interesting, engaging images within your…[Read more]

    Hi Nigel.
As a parter group we are planning to pool our data resources under one brand. Our collective prospecting we hope to automate to teams within capsule CRM and Mailchimp. Any advice would be most welcome

    • I like the idea of having one brand for a group of partners / associates.
I think that you will need to divide marketing and sales activities between you, depending on skills and time availability.
Capsule Professional should be OK to begin with, unless you want to go straight for the Teams offering? https://capsulecrm.com/signup

It is good idea, if possible, to only have one Mailchimp Audience. This will mean that everything is on one place. Your stats will improve and it is much easier to find subscribers. Sometimes, it makes sense to have a separate audience for a different company or country.

Setting up automated email sequences can take quite a bit of effort. However, once it is done, you have created a marketing machine.
